OUR COUNTRY NOW

This production is currently in development.

In Autumn 2026, we plan to produce 4 x 70-minute new plays written by 4 working-class playwrights - Florence Espeut-Nickless, Shahid Iqbal Khan, Kelly Jones and Diana Nneka Atuona - who are based in four different regions around the country (Southwest, Northwest, East and Greater London) working under the umbrella title OUR COUNTRY NOW.

There will be a 2-day R&D with the writers and director Daniel Bailey in February 2025 after which the 4 writers will be fully commissioned.

In Autumn 2026, the plays will rehearse for 3-weeks in each region with a local director, actors and stage manager followed by a 5-week run in London (4 plays running in rep, 2 plays per night) at the Southwark Playhouse main space and a 3-week regional tour.

4 brand new plays commissioned by Ardent Theatre Company by Florence Espeut-Nickless, Shahid Iqbal Khan, Kelly Jones and Diana Nneka Atuona
